CCR - Music Video

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

My music video uses a wide variety of pop song conventions. The music video includes costumes that help convey and properly represent the characters' story. Compared to my research on pop songs and music videos, the wardrobe was in much darker shades overall. This helps showcase the different emotions the actor was going through. In the music there were multiple different angles and shots which helped portray different parts of the video. For example, towards the end of the video there is a low angle which shows the audience that the main character (Marissa Modafferi) has finally gained the confidence she needed to move on. My music video has a recurring theme between many pop songs which is a theme of love and heartbreak. My music video uses this convention by telling the story of a girl who got cheated on to find love and passion throughout her job. On the other hand my music video does challenge some conventions. In most pop songs the singer or main character is lip - syncing to the song. In this case we did not need this in the music video. Our main goal was to tell a story and we did so without the need of this convention. My music video shows the working class social group through the use of working class folk as well as a specific workplace setting. The music video also represents the huge issues of toxic relationships, depression and lack of passion. The music video shows how a toxic relationship can completely change someone's work and regular lifestyle. In the music video Marissa is seen crying alone in her room because of this relationship. This toxic breakup is all happening while Marissa is at work which can definitely cause her to slack in work and lose her passion. This shows the effects of a girl in the working class social group as a firefighter.

  1. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My product engages with audiences through the story it's telling. Sadly many people can relate to a toxic or unhealthy relationship so my product can engage with audiences because there is a high probability they have gone through something quite similar. Having this as our main engagement will definitely attract people to want to watch the music video and share it with friends and family. Another way my music video can be engaging to audiences is the music video is filmed inside a real fire station. The average person has never seen inside a fire station so having this location as our scenery can add some deep interest into the music video. I would distribute my music video through lots of advertising. Since I’m a highschool student I would first share the media to all my friends and have them spread the word. The next thing I would do is advertise it on all my social medias including TikTok and Instagram. These platforms, especially TikTok are known for making people and their products go viral. Therefore I would definitely advertise it there. Something to add to the social media aspect of things is to make things like countdowns and hashtags to help promote the video even more, since audiences love things like that. Doing this will allow other people to help advertise the music video without even realizing it themselves.

  1. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills developed exceptionally throughout this project. All the way in the beginning starting at things like the research and storyboards. Doing both of these really opened my eyes to how something like a music video is made and how much work truly goes into the process. Both of these assignments definitely helped me get organized. It also helped me make sure I had the right conventions for the music video. Without the use of either of these assignments my group mates and I would have been way less organized and the music video would have taken much longer to produce. Another skill that I developed was filming. I was only in one scene for this music video. For the rest of the making of the video I helped my teammate (Peyton) film. This experience taught me how steady your hand has to be to get a good scene, otherwise we would have to do the scene all over again. One last skill I learned was patience. I personally think this is the biggest skill I developed. I learned that not everything is going to go my way, and I have to work with what I have and just do the best I can with what I was given.  There were certain scenes we would have to film 3 to 5 times just because the angle of the camera was not in the right place. There were many setbacks that occurred but my team and I eventually got through all the ups and downs together, and I’m super happy we got it all done.

  1. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

In this project the main technology that was used was Capcut and Iphone. I was vaguely familiar with cap cut from the last project I did. Peyton on the other hand was an expert in the app compared to me. This software allowed us to have all the filters, effects and any adjustments we would have needed to make after the filming process. While using Cap Cut I was very happy we chose to use this app. It allowed us to make all the edits we needed to make. Prior to using  Cap Cut we used an Iphone to film the scenes. We used a phone compared to a camera because none of us had access to a filming camera. Another software we used was canva. I used canva in the making of the storyboard. My group and I thought it would look better to do the storyboard online due to the timeline, so thats why we chose to do it on canva. One more thing we used were word documents that helped us all communicate and were used for things like planning, outlining,  drafts of scenes that we were planning on doing, or important group blogs. Using all of this softwares and technologies really helped my group and I have a successful product to produce.
